I'm a Kentucky girl. I grew up creek walking, tree climbing, frog catching country. I married, moved away and haven't lived there in almost 30 years. In all these years I've lived in a dozen towns across the southeast. I've perfected my walk in the highest of heels, rediscovered the joy of climbing things, and still can't resist bouncing after an adorable frog with the unfortunate luck of having hopped into my view.
I recently watched from the tarmac of "ill-prepared" as a marriage of twenty-eight years flew away on paper airplanes. I have two grown children who have managed, by no small feat, to have found their own wings and flown.
I manage to make it back to Kentucky from time to time, usually for a funeral, but finally, more joyously, weddings for the next generation. Still, the place where my heart was homegrown is torn up, torn down, razed to the ground - people and earth can slip through your hands - it's no longer my town.
I now live in the deep south of Alabama. I love the sultry, hot weather and pace at which things are done around here. It amuses me greatly to watch visitors try to hurry the locals along. Sorta like adding too much file' to the gumbo; just gonna make us thicker, slower. - 'Naw, yoo ha'ta coome back afta we git thees mezz feexed. Yoo hav'a yo'sef a loveleh day, sweehaut.'
I do hope you enjoy reading a bit of the ramble, nonsense, foolishness, babble, gabble, sentiment and gobbledegook from the dark spots on the brain cells of Laura Summerville Reed ~
