Yuri’s Disco
by Laura Summerville Reed
I’m still trying
to untangle from the impact
of propelling toward each other
over and over
at 156 mph
Arms and legs
and inner thighs and the small of a back
and there’s a cloven heart still beating
in there somewhere
but it’s all a sweaty mess
and the silence clings to me like your cologne
and the sheets from a fevered sick-bed
I should have kept your dirty mind
up against a bathroom wall
I should have never let your beautiful body
anywhere near my heart
I should have closed my eyes
and not let you look right through me
Now I’m stranded on the dark side of the moon
in my summer shoes with no t-shirt on
while Yuri Gagarin discos the night away

I can remember those times when I saw someone who I wanted to take me to the moon. Sometimes they did. Most times I forgot to bring a change of clothes. The memories were great and some of them burned at my heart for a while. But in the end, they left me there on the moon to walk home alone and that's why we are not together today. Your poem reminded me of one or two back when I was a cowboy out lookin' for a maverick or two. The memories still warm my heart and in a way, I am still glad they took me with them to the moon...even if I had to walk back alone. WB
Don't worry...I can't either. All the girls use to think I was gay because of that!

That's what showers are for. :-)
Voted it up. This was really good. I am jealous. I wish I had written this poem. *wink*
untangle, inner thighs, cloven heart, clings, fevered sick-bed. . .
I love the way your words taste
Wonderful, simply wonderful and awesome. Now you know how cold and dark it is on the backside of the Moon. Nipples git hard?
A work of poetic genius my friend!
So good and endearing to my willing eyes that I forgot to go to the bathroom!
Hold on - hold on - this is so good that I have to give you another rave review!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've always said you were good! By the way I'm a native Texan and I can't two-step either!
I am a good man because you made me that way - and this is the third exclamation of such critical acclaim ---- you rock my world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (with your excellent writing skills)
I'll come back for a third visit too! If it's okay???
EVERYTIME I see that title - Yuri's Disco - I am compelled to come back - and let you know how good writing can be when you get the right subject with the right choice of words - it's like magic - well like your smile!!
and my two cats whom I love - Little Miss Tiffy and Mister Gabriel!
Very well done!
Your poems make me smile - just love your imagery:
I should have closed my eyes
and not let you look right through me
Now I’m stranded on the dark side of the moon
in my summer shoes with no t-shirt on
while Yuri Gagarin discos the night away.
Brilliant!
I am back once again - and now all of my friends call me -YURI - and yes I have conquered the disco scene (just like old times) - and if they took your smile away - my battery wouldn't run anymore!
could this be poem of the century?
..yes I come by every now and then to pay my respects to this hallowed poetic monument that you have written:
Yuri's Disco!
